Another Saturday Morning…

Football field at sunrise with a football and Coach’s Wife tumbler — Same Field. Different Perspective

Another Saturday morning…

The sun did come up today—even though the cloudy skies are doing a pretty good job of hiding it.

But I woke up with a heavy heart.

Not necessarily because we lost last night, but because we lost last night.

I know that probably makes no sense. But to me, it does.

I’ve watched this group from the inside—not the social media side or just what everyone sees under the Friday night lights. I’ve seen the work, the conversations, the frustration, the growth and the buy-in.

And I know this: these kids are trying.

They want to win. They work hard. They care. And sometimes wanting it badly and working for it still doesn’t immediately show up on the scoreboard.

When we arrived last summer, this was a group of kids who played football. Over time, we’ve watched something begin to shift. There’s more unity. More fight. More belief. They’re learning what it takes to become a program—and that doesn’t happen overnight.

That’s the hard part about Friday nights. Everyone sees the final score.

They don’t always see everything that came before it.

And maybe that’s part of why I wanted to create In the Trenches in the first place—to share some of what happens behind the scoreboard. The people. The work. The lessons. The hard days and really good ones. The things a win-loss record will never tell you.

So yes, my heart is a little heavy this Saturday morning.

But I still believe in what’s being built.

Because there’s always more to the story than the scoreboard.
